Privacy Policy

This is the POPIA section 18 notice for geta.co.za.

1. Who is responsible

The responsible party for the purposes of POPIA is Geta Finlayson Studio.

2. What this website records

Standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, page requested) are kept by the hosting platform for operational purposes. No cookies are placed in your browser by this site, and no analytics or tracking is used.

3. What the studio holds about you

The studio holds whatever you share in a message: typically a name, an email address or phone number, and the text of the conversation about a piece or a commission.

4. Whether providing it is voluntary

Providing your personal information is voluntary. If you choose not to, the studio will not be able to respond to an enquiry that has no contact details attached to it.

5. Who has access

The studio owner is the only person who reads enquiries. WhatsApp and your email provider handle messages you send through them, governed by their own privacy policies.

6. Cross-border transfers

Hosting providers, WhatsApp, and most email providers operate servers outside South Africa, including within the European Union, with privacy commitments consistent with section 72 of POPIA.

7. How long it is kept

Conversations in WhatsApp and email persist in those services for as long as the studio chooses to keep them. The studio does not delete past conversations on a schedule, because they double as a record of taste, sizing, and previous commissions that is useful when the same person comes back about a new piece.

If you ask for your conversation to be deleted, the studio will delete it as soon as it is reasonable. Copies held by WhatsApp, by your email provider, and by any intermediate mail server are subject to those services' own retention policies and the studio cannot delete them on your behalf.

Server access logs are retained by the hosting platform according to its own policy.

8. Your rights

Under POPIA you have the right to:

• Know what personal information the studio holds about you and request a copy.
• Ask for it to be corrected if it is inaccurate.
• Ask for it to be deleted.
• Object to processing in the circumstances POPIA allows.
